When mounting a strut turkey is it easier/better to cut the tail off and put the skin on loose? Then apply caulking to the back side of the body. Also do you bondo the tail fanned out while detached from the skin, then attach and glue to the body? Thanks.

I bondo a 10 guage U shaped wire into bottom of fan then stick fan onto body. You can remove tail to transport that way then replace when you get it home.Yes to your other questions!

I remove it and bondo it seperately. This protects the fan during degreasing, freezing, tumbling, etc. It also allows you to be working with the skin while the bondo is curing. Otherwise your skin is sitting there drying out while you wait for the bondo to finish. Most would cringe, but I remove the legs as well. I mount the legs and fan before putting the skin on. This helps me get better alignment, symmetry, and proper anatomy. Wiring, injecting and painting the legs is remarkably easier, as well.

I also remove the tail AND legs. That's just the way I learned, and I don't know how I'd do it any other way.
