Now that I have your attn. (sorry) I was mowing my lawn this morning and cam across two birds nest's. I would like to use them in one of my shop display mounts. I talked with the local game warden and he said its ok to use them as they were abandon. Right now I am working on the folowing mounts, a fawn (day old), a coon, rabbit, and three possums (mom dad and a young one) any ideas how I can include one of the bird nests into any of the mounts? I was thinking the possums as they will all mounted togather. What do you think? This is somthing I could find a way myself but I just want other opinions. Joseph R Osborn (Hunter's Dream Taxidermy)

Either the possum or the coon would eat bird eggs out of a nest.
The nests are from grackles. I think the eggs look like spotted robins eggs but I do not know as I have never seen the eggs. I like the possum idea becuase the papa possum was going to be on a branch upside down with his head tilted back with his nose touching mama's nose and the kid was going to be watching. I think I could add the nest and have papa raiding the nest and mama and the kid could be watching. or somthing like that. Well thanks George! Joe
I thought it was illegal to possess any birds nests or eggs .Isnt this in the regulations somewhere ? I'm sure someone has this info . Rick
Songbirds nests can't be disturbed "while active" in most states, but Federal statues don't apply. For waterfowl, Federal permit holders can possess both nests and eggs. And with this type diorama, it would be easier to mold and replicate eggs to appear to be broken with the yolk and albumen.
In Mississippi, According to the Wildlife and fisheries Department, Grackles are legal to kill, possess, stuff, or anything else, since they are reguarded as a nuisance bird. They are not native.
