I tubed the secondaries off of a mallard and was wondering if i should go to the bottom side of the wing and split the skin to clean the primary region? OR because there is little there not to split them. What is the best way to go. I would rather have no incision if possible.

Although there isn't that much meat in that last joint, it is still there. It is simple to open the last joint, scrape out the meat, then pack it with borax a couple stiches and you'll never know the difference. Or you can fill it with clay and then super glue the skin back down.
I usually do this on birds the size of geese and larger, If you do leave it in, a small injection of your favorite preservative fluid would be a good idea, just to CYA.
