when I mount waterfowl flying, It doesnt matter what I do if I tube the wings or make an incision, after its mounted the featers are all frayed. I fill in the area of the radius and ulna with clay and then use caulk. the web is good, I just have a hard time with the feathers under the wing, they never lay flat and get frayed so bad they wont come together again. Im no beginer at birds I have taken several ribbons with closed wing mounts. Its just when I pull a birds wing open before I skin it out, my mounts dont look as smooth. Help Brent

I know exactly what you are talking about. I skin out my wings all the way (I don't make an incision,) and especially on my geese, those little feathers under the wing always look terrible. So I began putting a Lot of extra Dawn soap on those feathers, and just let it set there for a while (straight soap, no water yet) Then rinse, and soap again. Then rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse! That has been working for me, so far, lol! Another problem--make sure NOT to get any borax onto those feathers. Borax tears those little feathers up! It is a pain, to tiptoe around those little feathers, but it will pay off in the end!
