Wing Questiom

I have been trying to gather all the info I can on mounting birds.I am very new to the bird sector of the taxidermy field.I watched a video on mounting a standing pheasant and it showed making an incision under the wing between the second and third joint to remove that meat.My question is,If you are doing a flying bird or a mount where this part is visible,Do you sew it back up or is there a way to get the meat out from the inside without making a cut?

On flying mounts, it is nearly impossible to hide the seam on the underside of a wing. What I do is turn the wing, removing the feather quills from the bone. Then, you can remove all the meat. When you mount the bird, you should use caulk to glue the feather quills back to the bone. Also, I can turn a wing much faster than I can incise and sew one!

Don't make the cut

Your better off turning your wings from the inside. Just be careful on the backside of the ulna as it's easy to cut the skin there. The feather quills are attached like almost directly to the bone there. You can also stop just past the humerous. Cut the tendons from the ulna and radius and dig the meat out with hemostats.

get used to turning them. its difficult to start out but when you've done a few you'll be glad you learned. Much faster and makes for a better mount.
