Ok I found your post

I would like to mount a Duck attached to a reed up in the air like I have seen in some photos, any info on how, books,or tapes. Thanks, Jeff

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I have not done any water fowl. But here is what I would think I would do, if someone brought me one. I would get 3 reeds. I would build a base, and the drill holes to mount the reeds to the base. The one that I mounted the duck to I would put a 3/16 (Home Depo) rod through the center of the reed. Then thread the end to attach to the base. I would put two nuts on it. One on top and the one on the bottom, and then tighten them. So the rod is secure and pointing straight up. I would then mount he bird as normal. Then when it can time to attach the bird to the reed, I would drill out a small hole in the body of the bird. I would put a small bend on the end of the rod so it will look like the duck is just missing it. And then put test fit to make sure it looked natural ( Actaully I would probably do this with the manikin before I mounted it) After I was satisfied with the look, I would then place a little bondo in the hole I made for the wire, and then slide the wire in place and hold the bird like I wanted it until the bond setup.

I think a good book to get would be the Bird taxidermy Manual from Breakthrough. I think it may cover it.

I hope this helps. Others that read this, do you think this is a little over kill?

Jeff sometimes it better to go on and say what you think you have to do, and let others respond. This way someone will tell you are wrong (so be a little tough skinned, some will mean well but appear to be Harsh) and others will tell you you area doing it right, (or it would be right with a small modification).

Sounds like your method would work with good results.

If your choice of reeds are too thin at the tip to conceal the rod. you can glue two together around the rod. I had to do that with a turkey that was attached to a base by one tail feather.

Now, Jeff quit the whowas me routine sometimes queries get overlooked. Or poor titling does not draw the right individual. when you can't find it in the archives, and don't get a response. Try again, change the title, a different day, a different reader can make all the difference.
