I just did a buffle head for a customer that had suffered from a little too much sun and the skin on the head started to release some of the small feathers between the bill and the eye. This is the second bufflehead like this I have seen. I called the customer and told him and he said to mount it anyway. So going against my better judgment I mounted the bird. It looked great unless you really looked at the head. About a month later I was in the process of flocking some canada goose decoy heads and the thought hit me. Why not put a dab of glue in the area missing feathers and shoot some flock on it? It worked great. I challenge anyone to notice that this bird has been touched up. I just thought I would pass this along. I dont know maybe this is something some of you have done in the past, but it was a Breakthrough for me.

Thank you for sharing that tip with us! I love when taxidermists help each other out:o)
The best part about it is you can get flocking in many different colors. White, green and black are comonly used to flock decoy heads.
My uncle has an old snow goose mount that is missing some feathers around the base of the bill that im going to touch up with the white flocking and see how it looks.
please note that most of the colors of flocking are poly's and fade very fast when exposed to sunlight. Some of the blacks are nylons which hold up much better to UV.
