Preserving Bird Feet/Wings for Classroom

Submitted by NorthWolf on 8/28/05 at 1:51 AM. ( ) 24.220.97.144

I would like to know how I could go about drying/preserving a pair of Canada goose feet and wings for classroom use. The feet (cut off at the thight) and the wings (cut off at the shoulder) are currently frozen. I do want to use the actual feet of the bird and not molds.

Thanks a lot in advance!

I suggest taking them to a taxidermist but if money is an issue you can do it yourself. You can use preserve it or something similar on the feet. Make sure you inject them well as the feet are quite large. I suggest removing at least the tendons. As far as the wings go, it will be a little more challenging. You will need to remove all the meat. Turning the wings can be difficult if you havent done it before. There is too much meat in those large wings to inject or use borax. If you dont get that meat out you will get bugs. If you decide to do it yourself shoot me an email and Ill talk you through trying to get those wings turned. Good luck. Mark Natures-Reflection.com
