Freight costs

I need to ship a sandhill crane from TX to NC. I am getting quotes in the 300.00 plus range from truck lines. Add in the cost of building a crate and the total shipping is as much as the mount. It seems that it is getting to the point where taking in out of stste birds is just not worth it anymore.

What are you guys seeing?

If the crane is a standing There is no reason you cannot ship it Fex Ex ground. It should fit in a large McKenzie Box or a wardrobe box you can by from most moving companies.

Screw the base to the box from the outside using a couple of drywall screws and fender washers. fill the box with packing peanuts and ship!

Fed Ex Ground should run you around $25 to $30. and the wardrobe box and packing peanuts no more than $50.

I have shipped African Blue Cranes this way and they are quite a bit bigger.

Good luck,
Mike

I had some buyers for a sailfish, but it would only go by way of freight truck. I got quotes has high as 700.00. No one wants to pay that kind of shipping.
