When tumbling turkeys, how often should you change the corn cob grit?
I use only the fine grit from Van Dyke's.

....use it more than twice. It gets wet and the excess grease from the birds will eventually get transferd onto the feathers on the following Turkey.
Turkeys are large birds and will use up a lot of grit. But dont be stingy with the stuff. You'll get best results!

And how long do you tumble? Tail On or Off? How many Baffles in your tumbler? And what RPM are you running?

Have a great day,
Dave

I have been using the same grit in my tumbler for about 5 1/2 years. ive tumbled hundreds of birds in it, including several dozen turkeys. they all still come out clean as a whistle.

my only maintnence comes when I am really working on birds day after day for a while, especially large ones. I will have to take my grit out of the tumbler and spread it out on a tarp out in the yard for a half day to dry it out. after tumbling a couple turkeys a day, every day for a week or so.....it gets saturated.
