I have a question that has probably been asked many times before so I am sorry if it gets old. If I was gifted a bird from someone could I then pay a local taxidermist to have it mounted or would I have to be a taxidermist and mount it myself? The reason I ask is because I would really like a pair of Harlequin ducks. However, I do not live on either coast, and I do not hunt ducks. I do raise a few different breeds though. Like I said, I know this question has probly come up before and has been answered many times, so I thank you in advance for your patience with me as I do not fully understand all the taxidermy rules. If any one can help me with this question, and if legal, would like to gift me a pair of Harlequins I would much appreciate it. My email address is harlequin_duck@hotmail.com Thank you all for your time.

I see no problems as long as you are not being "given" the birds by the taxidermist you are paying to mount them.
Are you in Minnesota?
No Doug, I live in southeast Idaho.
Doesn't the taxidermist need the signature of the licensed hunter who shot it for their federal log books ?
I would think that if I was gifted the birds then I would need some sort of paper work to show where I got them from and it seems to me that the taxidermist would need a copy of that.
