I like Apoxie Sculpt...

I like to rebuild my skulls with Apoxie-Sculpt. First, I wrap some excelsior into a tight peanut shaped ball, and stick that in the skull, filling in the space under the eyes, cheeks, and jaw. Then, I smooth out everything with a nice layer of Apoxie Sculpt over top of the excelsior. I use excelsior because it is too expensive to fill in the entire skull with Apoxie Sculpt. I do like to fill in the eye sockets with clay, since clay is softer and easier to set the eyes. Good luck:o)

Jerry, I use artificial heads

I don't have any problems using them. I do use the real head on pheasants, but I wire the skull FIRST and then pull the wire down through the neck material. Critter clay works especially well for me on the ringnecks. Apoxie Sculpt gives a firmer base, but you only get one chance to get it right. If your eyeset is off in any way, it's a little trickier to get it right in my opinion, but I suppose either would work just as well.

Thanks for the input
