I've read about degreasing geese and the ph factor but I can't find where it says how much dish soap to use. A few drops of dawn or 1/4 cup I'm going to use a 5 gallon bucket. Someone please reply

You can use as much as you want. There is no specific amount.
Never have i worried about the ph balance of my soapy water. Use as much as you'd like.. you're not going to hurt the bird any. But realistically.. a little goes a long way when it comes to washing a bird. A large bottle of Dawn usually last me between 30 to 40 duck sized birds.. if that gives any indications.

Type in "washing ducks pH" in the search box and read the 31 responses given and you will see various peoples opinions on it. I put my views in a few times.
The amount of dish detergent would be about what you might use to wash dishes. I would wash and rince the birds a couple times leaving the skin inside out on the first wash and feathers outside on the last wash. As long as there are suds, you have enough detergent.
I like to use Dawn detergent. I turn the bird inside out, and give it a quick rinse in some warm water. Then, I spread the Dawn directly over the skin surface, and let it sit in the bucket with NO water yet, for up to an hour. More or less, depends on my mood. Then, rinse the heck out of it. You can add more soap and let it soak in soapy water too. Do whatever it takes to get him clean! Be sure to rinse for what seems like an eternity, because Dawn bubbles take forever to disappear. Once it's all finished, you will have a squeaky clean bird!
