How to refurbish kestrel legs.

I have a kestrel which was mounted in 2004 and the legs and feet are not to my liking. Is there a chance of soaking the feet and legs in water, then reshaping them?

It all depends on what the taxidermist who mounted the bird used as a preservative. I have had some success with cotton wool soaked in water and a drop of dettol(to prevent any mould forming) drape the wet cotton wool over the feet and leave it for a day or two to see if it relaxes at all. however if the feet were injected with formeldehyde to plump them up then i dont think it will be possible to re-position them.
good luck.
