I am looking for a mounted eagle. Has anyone ever seen a taxidermied eagle? Thank you.

Jane.. I work at a shop where we have done a number of eagles...here's the thing, only native americans with a valid permit from the USFWS may have these birds and this was the case at my shop. my advice is to call the usfws and have them explain this law. hope this helps.

Jane, are you in the USA

If so, you'll be looking until a very hot place turns cold. Eagles are a federally protected species and are unlawful to possess by private citizens. I've mounted several but all of them were for governmental agencies or educational facilities. There are NO PRIVATE PERMITS and only eagles mounted before the law banning them went into effect are allowed in the hands of the original owner or someone he or she gave it to (Even this is a contentious matter since there must be documented proof when passing the eagle down to someone else.)

You can always buy a reproduction eagle--a fake eagle created from the feathers of other, legal birds. There are some beautiful ones on www.taxidermy.net/gallery/recreations/recreation.html
