I am looking into getting a mallard mounted and had a question about the bill. I know that it can either be the real bill or an artifical. Is one better than the other? Anything else I should be looking for in a good mount? Thanks.

Just my opinion, but if you know what the real bill looks like and it is ok to you then use it. You can use an artificial one and it will be painted to look or resemble the real one. They are usually always enhanced with paint regardless if they are real or artificial. It is usually a personal preference. As long as the bill is cleaned well and all tissue is removed so that there will be no rotting going on or smell then you are ok. A good taxidermist knows all these things. Just ask the questions to them and they should ease your mind or at least help you make your decision.
I searched the archives and found a whole lot of information on this subject.
