can you invert the nech on a dove to turn the skull inside out or do you have to make a incision. also do you need to flesh it on a wire wheel or how is this done as they seem fragile

boy, aren't doves fun? yes, I have inverted them - but incision will make things easier. I use tweezers and cotton when skinning. have to be careful with blood. Although I have washed these with some success - i just like the unwashed version more. as far as fleshing - they aren't exactly fat like ducks, and i just don't see how you could wire wheel. I jsut do what i can with knife. these can irritate you, but when finished, sure are rewarding!
good luck!

you guys that can do a dove are good!
Yes you can invert the neck and that's the only way I do doves.
No, don't use a wire wheel. A doves skin is like rice paper. Where I live we have Mourning doves and White Wing doves, the white wings are larger and always fatty. I go real slow and scrape the fat off with my fingernail. Whenever I use a tool I put holes in it.
Danny always inverts them- no incision. He also uses the wire brush and always washes them. But, he works very slowly as to not 'blow' holes.
