dryer tumbler

I have looked at most of the archives on making dryer tumblers, and it seems that the main problem with them is that they turn too fast. If I understand correctly, 12-17 rpm is ideal for bird tumbling. So the question is, has anyone tried wiring a dimmer light switch to a dryer so you can adjust the speed? I have a dryer tumbler and I'm thinking of trying this. If anyone has tried it, let me know if it works.

Don't know much about electricity, do you?

Dimmer switches are actually resisters in an electrical circuit. By adding resistance, the flow or amperage is reduced. All motors list the amperage required to operate them. By going below that, the winding in the motor are overheated and the motor is destroyed. Dimmers work well on lights, but are the bane of motor windings.

BTW, that's not the ONLY problem with jury rigging a drier into performing a job it was never designed to do.

works fine

when I first started out doing taxidermy,a long time ago,I used a dryer and it worked fine on birds the size of pheasants and down.but todays tumblers are much better with the slower motor.

thanks

I was just wondering if the speed control units for electric fans would work, they are different than the ones for lights
