Building the wing pockets

I mounted a standing wood duck and I can not get the wings to set right. Is there a secret to this. How do I get the wing pockets to fit. Thanks.

Did you

over fill the wings? Is the form the proper size and fit? Did you run your wire out to the tip as you would on a flying bird? When doing standing birds, you don't have to. I use just enough to attach it to the form and pin the wings into position, but all the pins in the world won't help, if you don't have the proper fit and skin alignment to start with. Marc R

Wire in Wings?

Most people tell you to wire the wings on a standing bird. I do not. I find that there is more freedom to position a closed wing, if there is no wire connecting the wing to the mannikin.
