Wanting to purchase a mounted Canvasback

Submitted by Lance Dempsay on 12/14/05 at 2:12 PM. ( lance.dempsay@coelkhartindiana.org ) 12.162.43.126

Does anyone have or do you know where I may be able to purchase a Canvasback that has already been mounted? I recently killed my first Canvasback after years of hunting...I wanted to mount it, and not very intelligently, I decided to try and do it myself, with no experience. I quickly gained a new found appreciation for how artistic Taxidermists are. I messed it up completely and could not salvage the bird. I would still like to purchase one as a reminder/keepsake of the one that I messed up. Do you have any information you could share as to where I could get one?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

What you're asking is illegal. Its illegal to sell, trade, etc. any migratory birds. You'll have to be more careful next time.

He did not ask for a shot bird(wild)!

What he asked for was a mounted Canvasback...That doesn't mean he couldn't purchase a pen raised Canvasback. They are however, very expensive from most breeders. I'm sure there are people on this site that could help you out!

Lyle you dumb ass, look at the for sale.

As long as its pen raised and the paperwork is there its 100% legal.

If its wild shot then you are right. Before you run amuck, know the muck you tread.

I received several emails with information about purchasing pen raised Canvasbacks (which is legal...I've already researched it). I appreciate everyone's help in this matter. Rick A & Rorie are correct...I just asked for a mounted Canvasback (and pen raised is fine).
