Duck expert needed

Submitted by Bazie Dulen on 12/23/05 at 9:05 PM. ( bdulen@mrtc.com ) 206.157.148.122

A customer brought me a duck and asked me if I knew what kind it was. I didn't know but I told them I would try and find out what it was for them. If there is anyone out there I could send a photo to so they could identify it for me, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Baz

I don't claim to be a waterfowl expert(at least not "educated"). But I do know plenty about waterfowl. Send me a pic and I will try to help you out. My address is duckduckgoose29@hotmail.com. In the future you should see if you can find a good id book or bird book of some kind to use for identification. I am pretty sure WASCO sells at least one book that would be very useful for id'ing waterfowl.

How about....

just describing it with a few details. Bill shape and color, the size of the body, the color of it's feet, the colors on it's body and head, and the arrangement of these colors, where it was harvested, if it was freshly filled, the color of it's eye, etc. If you gave some of these descriptions, I'm sure that the "experts" could come up with your duck.

Be careful!

If I can't ID a bird, I'll take photos and have the customer take it back home till I positive ID it. I recently had a customer who wanted to bring in a deer and 2 ducks. One of the ducks was a greenhead mallard and the other was a protected species that I kindly told him to get it back to his truck! He killed it and had no idea what it was. If it had been left in my shop till I IDed it, I could have been in BIG trouble! It's not worth losing a license over something like that.
