freeze drying bird tongues

Hey guys, I am wanting to preserve bird tongues and figured freeze drying them is probably the way to go. I know you can mould them and I have made them from apoxie sculpt before but I'd rather have the natural tongue for open mouth mounts. Is there such a thing as a relatively cost efficient way to do this? I know freeze dry machines are very expensive, but I wonder if anybody here knows of some extremely small, less expensive machines. I know this is kind of a dumn question, but if anybody is willing to share some ideas, that would be awesome. Thanks! Rob
