A freind of mine wanted to know if it was alright if he vacuum packed his waterfowl if he planned on getting them mounted. I do not do waterfowl but I didn't see any reason why not. Figgured I'd ask on here just to make sure it was alright. thanks...

Actually I vacuum all of my own- never know howlong it will be before I get to work on them!
I would suggest freezing them solid first, and then vauum them; vacuuming them fresh can crush them, and it will pull blood out of them!

When thawing them, make sure you release the vacuum from the bag by cutting a slit in it. If you don't, you will draw the blood out during the thawing process, just like Mike had stated. I do exactly what mike had suggested. Freeze first, then vacuum wrap. I will also skin, flesh, wash, and vacuum wrap the skin still wet, then freeze them. They will last a long time in this state, and take up very little freezer space. I will take a piece of paper towel and place it near the opening of the bag where you make the seal, otherwise the Food Saver has a hard time actually sealing due to the water/moisture at the seam being drawn up by the vacuum.
