Removing duck feet

Submitted by Jim on 1/18/06 at 10:58 PM. ( ) 12.223.146.77

I started removing the feet on my ducks so I could inject and paint them easier. I like that part, but when I go to mount the duck, it almost seems like the skin shrunk and I have a heck of a time getting the skin where it needs to be to glue. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong? Thanks

you need to strech the skin with the handles of two small paint brushes or some thing like that

This works

Yes, you should stretch or even cut the leg hole a little, then slip the leg bone with wire attached, back into the leg skin. Then, from the INSIDE of the skin, you can use super glue to attach the leg skin to the bone.

When to glue

Do you glue the skin back in place before you run the wire through the bird body?

Yes

You could do it either way. I like to glue the skin to the leg bone from the inside of the skin. Then, I run the leg wire through the form. I have also done it the other way, where I put the leg in the skin, run the wire into the form, then glue the skin from the outside. I don't like doing it that way though, because the glue will sometimes get on the feathers. When you glue from the inside, you can't mess things up as much.

Thanks

I'll try glueing from the inside before wiring the leg to the form and see how that works.

sounds like...

skin is drying out on you. jsut moisten and it should work fine - I can't say that I've run into this problem (but then again, I seldom use this method)

good luck
