Old dusty duck mounts

I have some old duck mounts fresh from the attic. They are basically really dusty and dirty. Was wondering if anyone had any reccommendations on how to clean them properly. Thanks Bill

A challenge

that is frequently not worth the effort. Really dirty mounts have "absorbed" the dirt and dust into each of the feather veins. I have had limited luck by first using a feather duster and dusting them with the feathers. After this I use a large ball of cottom and soak it with acetone. I wipe carefully with the fether tracks and have had some luck getting more of the dirt out. In my experience you can not take one of those really old bird mounts and make it appear as a new one. Good luck

Hi. I too have a couple of old duck works. They are a pair of Mallards - Susie and a Drake. The neck skin has pulled away from the body of the Susie just a bit, but otherwise, they are just old and dusty. I had once thought of trying to sell them (they were given to me by a co-worker a few years back after she couldn't sell them at her yard sale), but from what I have been reading maybe selling them isn't a good idea as I have no paperwork to go with them. And, from what I just read above it sounds like they won't clean up too well either. So, I am not a taxidermist, but perhaps one of you taxidermist folks could suggest what I should do with the duck mounts?
