Kasier's colorject

There is nothing I could find about this stuff in the archives, other then joe kaiser judging birds at some show.

Is this another product to stay on the shelf or does it work? No I haven't tried it and will trust the answers I get here to make that decision. Surely someone here has tried it out, what did you think?

And no George this isn't one of my gasoline ass escapades,lol... I was just wondering. The guy that taught me turkeys says you don't have to paint turkey legs, but the color faded in the one I did there.

I will go search painting turkey legs now. Thanks for any help

Painting Turkey Legs

Joey, I am not familiar with the product you are seeking. I use gill red and just ever so lightly mist it on til I am happy with it. Then I load black and dress up around the feet, toes and spurs. This is for commercial work, I do not know what the competition guys do.

PS to the above message

colorject and turkeys

about the colorject...I've tried it and still use it here and there. I'm still trying to find something I like more. I jsut really don't like that 2part inject stuff in general. But Kaiser's stuff is WAY better than masters blend (in my book) - I've still got lots of MB that I'll probably never use. the colorject will give you good working time - but will still require some touch up paint in the end. I reccommend that you try it...you may be very pleased. go to www.arkta.org and search for Joe's phone number. He's a super nice guy and will gladly anwser questions for you.

on the turkeys...yeah paint the legs (but like joey said - not too heavy) - as for the colors...I feel like gill red may be a tad bright - but try it and see what you like. i recommend mixing a few colors and just finding what loooks about right (check reference)

good luck and sorry I'm so long winded
brian

I guess I cannot get my act together on this tonight, plus I haven't painted any turkey legs in a couple of months...By using the black last you can tone down the brightness of the gill red on the legs.

Thanks Guys

joeym, You might better watch it there. Typeing like that and the folks around here might start thinking you are me.lol I have had plenty of those days.

thanks Brian, I will try to find his Number. I guess I will also try it since it would be used on my personal birds. What's to loose right. I have seen in the archive were people tint fish manakins before mounting some thin skinned fish, maybe it would work about the same. can't be no worse then my painting skills.
Thanks again guys.

Turkey legs--tinting

This response submitted by joeym on 1/29/06 at 9:37 AM. ( ) 68.222.75.223

Joey...I guess I should have just said that I tint them til I'm happy with them! Once long ago I did not paint turkey legs. Before I had an airbrush, it just seemed that I made a big mess. But...they do fade. I don't know whether the terminology is correct, but they appear translucent. Just a little tinting coloration really helps them out. I paint more on tail-beard-feet plaques than I do on whole birds. People really like to see the coloration in them and it adds a lot to the presentation. I do use fish gloss on them...lightly on the whole birds, and a little heavy on the plaques.

Yeah I know what you were saying as I have painted pheasant legs before, tinted that is. Have you ever tried using a lite satin topcoat? It seamed to work pretty well on the pheasant. just curious. Thanks for your help.
