Re-carding?

Submitted by pjk on 1/29/06 at 12:49 PM. ( ) 24.66.94.140

Ok just pulled the carding off a landing goose mount ,seems some of the feathers are lifted up and not laying as flat as I would like. Can I somehow wet then re card or is there another way to fix this up.Try ed steaming did not do what I was after, believe I need to flatten these lifted feathers and let then dry over just not sure if getting the skin wet will ruin it .(it was boraxed)

Which feathers?

How long has it been since you first carded? I have gone back after a week and re-carded after finding out not everything is where I wanted- no problems with that. I also, USE MASKING TAPE on those feathers that I think you are talking about. But I've never gone back and got the skin wet (sounds dangerous). If the skin is dry the feathers are locked. Maybe some of the pros can help.

Since carding, what I think I may have done in built up the wing muscles to much causing the skin to bulge in turn lifting the feathers do you think squeezing that area would hold then down, when I do it by hand it works ,just thinking if the skin is dry(which it is)will the feathers remain down as soon as the carding is removed thats why I figured the area would need to be re hydrated.

You can rehydrate

You can rehydrate the skin by injecting water with a hypodermic. It won't take much. However, since your problem seems to an overfilling of the wing muscle rehydrating the skin won't remove the problem.
Give it a shot---literally. It might work. It might not. But next time make sure you only put back what you took out.

Just tape the feathers down, and they should finish drying in place.
