I was lucky enough to shoot a goose with a radio tracker on its back this weekend. I was wondering how much this thing could be worth. It has a reward number on it but havent heard back from ky dnr. Just wondering if I were to sell it how much to ask. It was put on the bird in 10/98.
Thanks for any info

Your comment about shooting a goose with a tracking device disturbs me. It sounded like you were going to sell it to the highest bidder. Rather you should do the best thing for Wildlife management and turn it in ASAP. After all it is your tax dollars and money from hunting licenses that paid for the research project this bird is part of. They will probably thank you for sending it back and give you some information about movement patterns of the bird you shot similar to a banded bird. Hopefully you were kidding. Cheers
It's no different that someone shooting a banded bird. I've seen grown men fight like kids over who gets the band. The guy said he contacted the Ky DNR. If, for whatever reason, they dont call back he may want to sell it-- I see lots of bands on eBay.
I am not interested in selling the transmitter. Was just wondering how much it would be worth. NO bidding. I have contacted the KY dnr and they are checking into it to see if they even want it back, due to its age. Also the bird had a leg band. It is a once in a lifetime bird and I will mount it as my trophy and at least will make a dummy to put on the bird if the dnr wants it back.
Also If my tax dollars and money from hunting license paid for it why wouldnt I keep it, the battery is obviously dead after 7 years.
one last thought If I were going to sell it wouldnt I put it in the for sale category?
Usually the DNR from the state which the bird was banded will request that you send them the transmitter so that it may be recycled, and in turn they will send you an exact replica to use for display, or taxidermy purposes. As you said, as old as this paticular one is they may not even want it back. As for selling it, it's yours, what business is it of anyone elses wether or not you sell it. I say do what ever the he11 you want.
my buddy shot a trnsmitter in Neb. and got 500.00 for returning it.Check it out
If you want to include this with your mount I would say go for it. The battery on this unit is either dead or close to it and probably worth less than $100. These units cost about $300 new with fresh batteries. Some cannot be refurbished. The more I thought about your situation, you are right, it is yours to do whatever you please. I have known several folks that harvested large mammals with radio collars on them and these hunters were very anxious to return the collar and learn something about the animal they killed. Everybody looks at things a little differently I guess.
