Domestic? Barnyard variety chickens?

No questions, gotta be cast. Too much fat in their legs and they'll never dry up without leaking puddles of grease.

Master's Blend or something like that won't work? I also have a chicken and have never done one. If that's the only choice, any tips for casting the things? I tried casting turkey legs once with less the perfect results. Heck, forget "perfect", they weren't even mediocre. LOL

Becky, trust me on this one.

Next time you get a set, try this one.
Detach the leg at the hip and clean the bone. Run the wire down the leg inside the skin and push it out where you'll be mounting the bird from Wire it and tape it to leg bone. On a scrap piece of foam, pose the leg and then set it in your freezer for a week or two.

Get your 2 part RTV ready and then pull it out of the freeze. Quickly apply the RTV before it begins to thaw (whice WILL BE QUICKLY because of all the fat. When cured, pull the foot off the foam and then cover the entire foot with another batch of RTV. Once cured, grab the leg bone and just pull. That greasy sucker will just slip right out of the RTV. Then I bent my wire to fit the mold sticking the excess out the bottom hole in the RTV. I took a 4 inch piece of PVC and put it atop the leg and just seated it inside the mold.

Then pour your casting material and let it set. Cut the RTV away and you have a perfect foot with an upper leg bone already molded in.

Thanks George

Not that I didn't trust you, I just wanted to be sure. I'm glad I saw this post before I injected the things because that was the plan. Thanks again. BP

You red-necked Southern boys, help me out here

Growing up, every country store had a big jar of pickled pig feet, pickled eggs, and pickled chicken feet on the counter. Did all that disappear when I left down there? Becky, that tells you just HOW greasy they were.
