Are you trying to find it locally or anywhere? Mr Rittel Has a sawdust suppliers list, and might sell it himself. I think McKenzie and Van Dykes may have some to.
i was trying to find something locally. are you familiar with the aspen bedding.
Try a pet store... you can buy corn cob "bedding" over in the rodent/rabbit care area. I got a 10 lb bag for less than $8.00. Some feed stores carry it too, just ask around for crushed corn cob bedding, pet stores and feed stores don't use the term "grit".
As for the aspen... "no aromic oils" is just an ad ploy that means its not like smelly pine and cedar bedding, the sappy woods are bad for pet respiratory systems. Now my father (who's in construction and works with wood) and I have been in an debate today over whether Aspen was a hard, medium or soft wood, lol. If someone could shed some light on the subject, I'd appreciate it.
If you want good hardwood sawdust, get in touch with a local cabinent maker, or any wooden furniture maker, and ask for a bucket full of shavings and dust.
Might go ahead and try that sawdust supply list from Mr Rittel. I dont know where you live,it might help. As far as trying to find it locally , good luck. Im not that lucky! I would probably order it if I was you to save some time and headaches , especially if you dont plan on needing a big quantity. That way you know your getting a good product. I do understand though,Its kinda expensive but worth every penny in the end.
I too was searching locally for hardwood sawdust when I finally scored! Turns out a butcher shop I do business with uses hickory sawdust to smoke their meat. They ordered a 40lb bag for me, cost about $12. Works great on deer, haven't tried it on birds.I'll have to try it on the grill for smoking meat.
Mt. Pulaski Products here in Illinois sells corn cob grit. They have a website and can tell you who sells their products near you. Hope this helps.
