i am doing my second phesant. i chose to do this hen like she is setting on a nest. the male will be looking back at her in a standing position. i have the hen mounted, but i dont know what to do with the feet. the way i have them isnt right, i know that for sure. the feet and first knuckle are showing, but it doesnt look right. what is the right way to do this. also the tail is sticking out in a fan position that doesn't look right either. i know i still have maybe a day that i can move it around. can anyone help me on this. thank you in advance.

Bob,
Try this: I did a search typing in "pheasants" on the internet and came up with all kinds of reference photos and all that had females on nests did not show any feet at all and the tail was folded, not fanned. See if that makes a difference.

Mike

if you are asking about how the legs seem to disappear on a bird. If you are trying to figure out how to hide the legs, they work in a sort of backwards "z" shape. they then compress like an accordion and dissappear up under the body in the feathers. not sure if thats what you were asking about the legs, if so, i hope that helps. not sure if i described that very well. good luck.

Pheasant feet

When doing birds on a nest I remove the entire leg bone and feet at the feather line. Never had a problems and the feet are not seen anyway. For competition pieces you would need to retain the legs and feet.

thank you

thank you for the tips. mike my computer kept freezing up when i tried to go to the web site you suggested. jon, it was the z shape i was missing. ihad the darn things with the wrong fold. silly me. once i put them in the right position it looked great. leapin, i love the idea of just taking them off. maybe my next nest bird i will do that. thanks again for all your help.
