I have seen turkeys carded to make the feathers stand up on a strutting bird, but how would you make a spruce grouse fluff up to imitate the strutting posture? Seems like the covert feathers are too small to card. Thanks for any help.

Hardly anyone cards anymore. Simply inject silicone caulk underneath the skin, groom them forward and let them set. Done deal.
hang it upside down, or tilted forward. I have done that before on turkey strutting with good results. Hope it helps
