I'm going to do my first in the roost. I want to use real wood. I was wondering what would be the best wood to use and do I have to do anything to preserve it, debug it or anything like that. Thanks for any help.

John is that is ONE "loaded" question....LOL. Lots of things come to mind, if you know what I mean.
I'm assuming you are talking about doing a turkey on a limb. As far as that is concerned, if you want to use real wood I would use either ehmlock or cedar--depending on where you live. In the northeast hemlock is very prevalent, cheap and easy to use--the limbs are usually fairly straight and of enough thickness to actually be usable. Cedar is also very good but finding one suitable for what you're doing may be frustrating depending on how available cedar is in your area.
Hope that answers your question.
LOL....still laughing about how you phrased that question!
