I have never done a teal before and I skined one out last night. I seperated the hide from the bill and then took the head out completely. I have used the real head in other ducks in the past but I was unable to get to the back of the skull on the teal to clean it out as I had done to the others before. I could not get the skin to invert over the head basically. Is it possible to do this or not? I know they are very thin skinned and I did not want to take a chance a rip it. Thanks

The neck is too small. Skin the head out from the front. than cut the head off of the neck.
I just did a green wing hen last night and i cut the neck just as you would a mallard and it worked beautifully. i used a thin waxed string that is black to sew it up and its probably the best mount i've done so far (not to many yet) It is possible though.

Well I do not make a cut on a mallard. I usually just invert the skin right up to the skull and do all I need that way. I try not to make any more cuts than I have to. But the neck on the teal is just too small to invert like a mallard.
But what you are saying is that you make a slit in the neck to allow the skin to expand so that you can invert it to the skull. I get that. I just try not to do it unless I have to and I guess I would if I did not take it off from the bill side. Thanks
