I'm trying to soak up as much info as I can before attempting my first bird. I've read a lot about using caulk on a body where you might want to force the feathers to stand up like a strutting tom or grouse. What type of caulk would you use, how much and does anyone have a brand preference?
Thanks for all the great info.

I use siliconized acrylic latex caulk on my birds. It give a slower kick time so you can arrange the feathers like you want. Usually you will have a couple of days. Make sure ALL holes are sewed up. If you decide to use 100% silicone like Cally Morris does, make sure you keep it away from Borax! Borax/silicone mixed will kick almost instantly. I found this out the hard way and had to completely tear a specklebelly goose apart to dig it out.
White lightning siliconized caulk is what I prefer to use. It's nice especially because you can run it easily through a syringe with a #14 needle. Thats how I like to pump up wings and heads.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. There sure is a lot to learn.

You bet there is alot to learn. The books will teach you alot but mainly all the foundations you need to do the project at hand. You learn alot more by actually doing it and picking up a tip here and there. There are plenty of knowledgeable people on this site who would be more than happy to teach you a tip or two to help you get better.
You can get it at wal-mart. works fine. Since your just getting started I wouldnt use silicone just yet since it dries quicker. Latex will give a little bit longer to set the feathers. good luck!
I use acrylic latex caulk from wally world. BP
Thanks again to all you guys and gals for all the great info. Latex it is then. Might be a while before I start as I have a lot more research to do but I'll let you know how it goes.
