Water specalists

I want to create a shallow pool (1/4 ") with Polytranspar Artificial Water and put a rock, a small branch and an artificial leave in the water. Non of the items will be completely covered, just partially so it looks like they are sitting in the water. Do I need to do anything to these items or can I just set them where I want them and poor around them? Also, is it better to pour on top of pelexiglass that has been painted to get a dirty water effect or just paint the bottom of the base a dark color? Just learning so thanks for the help.

I would do it this way: compose your habitat and pool bottom; the part that is underwater, cut a piece of 1/8 or 1/4 inch plexiglass, thickness depends on size of pool, paint, add habitat and finish bottom, place plexi, level and seal edges(hot glue), mix up your water adding dye to get color desired, pour over plexi, cover with box or place in no traffic area so you get minimal dust in the resin.

Your small branch can be cut at an angle and reconnected thru the plexi, either pinned or glued, depending on size.
