Doing a pheasant for comp, no not what you're thinking

Submitted by Matt on 3/27/06 at 10:16 PM. ( ) 207.69.137.24

I have searched the archives, but wanted to get more oppinions good or bad on the apex head by Frank Newmyer. Does anyone like this head for a comp bird? Is this one you have to split the wattles to fit. I want to alter it to accept the wayne cooper flex eye ring, but use a good comp glass eye instead of the one with the lids. Any and all oppinions are appreciated.

No matter what head you choose ,or the real head for that matter, you will need to split the wattles. If you don't you are asking for shrinkage and changeing shape

Has an awesome pheasant head as well as a body.
You can get them through Matuska Taxidermy Supply.
You can get the heads with or without eyes and btw the eyes he uses in them are acrilic.
I've been using them for a few yrs now and love them.
Like Tony said you still will need to split the wattles.

after you split the wattles, dont forget to throw away those wayne cooper eyerings. they are worthless for competition. you will look like you have a pheasant with wood duck eyerings.

I like Cory's too!

Go with Cory...He's been good for Blue with me...I agree with throwin' away the eye rings...Make your own out of apoxie sculpt...They are pretty easy to make on pheasants if you have reference.

Thanks for all the info guys

I have heard nothing but good things about Cory's heads and I think I will give them a try, thanks again.
