Price For a Spotted Kiwi Bird

I have a customer who is dealing with an insurance claim. He lost a stuffed Spotted Kiwi bird due to a construction mishap. I was asked to provide a quote to the insurance company for the value of the bird. Can anyone here give me a ball park figure?

as far as the taxidermy work, anywhere from $200 to $400 would be a reasonable price..

As for the rarity of the specimen... You have me.. I would say you're probalby not going to come across another to replace it considering there are less than 18,000 individuals left in the wild and NO breeding pairs in captivity.

Was it a Little or a Giant spotted kiwi? Both are barley hanging on.

Right now they are pulling...$1200 to $1500

I just recently imported a very nice specimen from The UK. We had to give $1200 for it plus all the import fees, Shipping ect. that go with importing a specimen. I would say that total $2000 would not be out of the ball park for the claim.

Brown Kiwi...1500-1800
Giant Spotted...2500-3000
Little spotted...3000 plus
Both the spotteds are almost gone, Browns limited in range.
If it is an insurance claim , go the higher end, that is why you pay insurance.

kiwis are an endangered species here in new zealand. It is illegal to mount or be in the possesion of a kiwi(fine up to $5000)I would contact the department of conservation of new zealand for further info. Trading in illegal birds will get you in very big trouble.Contact me if you need any info.
