Just out of curiousty where are you from? I had a friend just ask the the samething and I didn't know but he had a guy ask him.
where you been? Shingled strutting mount? I've never heard of it either. We'll have to look into that.
On a standing or regular strut mount, the breast feathers lay flat, or smooth against the breast of the bird. On a shingled, the breast feathers are "lifted" slightly, to give the bird or "fuller" look. Most turkeys come in with their feathers shingled, to make themselves look bigger. Go to www.hazelcreekturkeys.com and look at the catalog menu. There, you'll see a picture of a shingled strut.

Actually if I'm correct...all strutting birds are shingled. Shingled is how the feathers lie on the bird, the pattern. Like a roof hence "shingled" You know how you havwe the tabs lie on a roof.thats how the feathers lie on a turkey, every other row you alternate the feathers to give it a roof type look.
I just figured that was always just a more agressive show the turkey was puting on. I didn't know it had a name though. learn something everyday.
Joey, I have been all around here lately. In the past month and a half I have seen about 12 states. In the past week alone I put 3500 miles on my truck. I got to play catch up now. I even blew by the chunky exit twice last week once to pick up my boat and once to go down to see my sister. She just had her first baby and its not going great. It was 5lbs 9 ozs at birth and all was good. Now if it looses 1/2 oz she will be at 4lbs 15 1/2 oz and probably be in the hostpital. I hope to be back down that way in june for relaxation and will shout at you then. Later BTW the mile long sale is tomorrow. I bet it will be a bust we are getting pounded with rain and they are calling for it all weekend. I hope they are wrong, I came in from PA To find about half of my driveway washed into the creek...I hate asphalt but it looks like I may have to burn it up...
I have seen many great looking bird mounts that have the shingeled strut look. I didn't know that it was called that and all of the mounts I have done up to this point have been small birds with feathers out flat. My brother in law just shot a whopping 22 pounder with a 10 1/2 inch beard and awesome spurrs and he wants me to mount it if a full strutt. I have only done small birds and am unsure of the procedure for mounting (shingled) this way. Does anyone have any ideas of where to find info and what hide paste/ other materials I should use to get this effect? Thanks for asking the "not-so-stupid" question Darryl or I would be lost! Anything at all would be great, thanks guys! ~Hopeful Novice
