I'm sure this is going to be the stupidest question ever asked on here but I don't know a whole lot about pheasants. For the life of me I cannot figure out the difference between spring and fall wattles. I looked in the archives but either no one was brave enough to ask or I'm just a complete and total idiot. I even looked a fake heads with spring and fall wattles and just don't see a difference. I have 2 pheasants in my freezer and it looks like they both have different wattles. HELP!

unlike the old saying "Size does matter" when it comes to pheasant wattles. Spring wattles will be much larger, both on top and bottom. This is to allow the gents to show off for the ladies. If you are trying to order a "fake head" for a specific bird, but don't know the wattle size you can always get the spring and if you need to cut it down to the correct size. On the flip side you can also build up a fall wattle into a spring. Everyone that uses the real skulls on pheasants always must rebuild wattles no matter what size. I guess I'm just lazy cause I just use Cory's heads with the eyes already set.
I'm thinking of trying a fake head but would also like to know the difference in case I have to order one. The one pheasant his wattles make like a little purse under his chin but the other one dosn't have anything. Just a small patch on the side of his face, nothing hanging down. Thanks!
See any diffeences myself and i being doing this for 40 years,LOL
