Trying to get flying

I just bought a motor from grangers and was going to make a bird flesher out of it but I have 2 problems. 1)the motor shaft is 1/4 inch and I dont know how to convert that to the right size to fit a wire wheel 2)I took the specs off another bird flesher motor i had used while in school which is a 1/50 HP motor every other flesher i see is at least 1/25 HP (but i know for sure the motor i used was 1/50 HP) any help is appreciated.

Had the same problem

and I went to lowes and talked to someone in tools and they fixed me up with and adapter that is set with set screws, one side to the motor shaft and one to the brush. That was 10 years ago and the the adapter hasn't given me any problems yet(knock on wood) Hope this helps and enjoy.

John I just built my own flesher also but I used a 1/4 hp motor from gainger and I bought my arbor adaptor right from them. just look for arbors and you will find what you need. As far as the motor size I don't feel that it is that critical. The difference is the stopability, the 1/50 motor will stall out if you put to much pressure on it instead of ripping holes. the 1/25 motor will be more stout and might rip a hole here and there and my 1/4 motor has no mercy and don't stall out it took me a long time to develop the touch to use it. good luck

pulleys

I got a 1/4 HP motor and used a pulley system. I left slack in the belt so if I put to much pressure it would slip the belt and not burn threw.
