I just recieved my ferebee mallard head, but i am confused on how to attact it to the foam neck as there is no hole. Do i need to drill a hole, or cut the wire off the neck and glue it. Sorry for the stupid question, im a newbee. thanks

Drill it

Drill it and hot glue it. Rough the back of the head before gluing to the foam for better adhesion.

what kind of pose?

low neck? high neck? Flying?

you attach them to the neck all the same way, BUT there are different things you can to the head and neck union for different poses which makes it easier to work with.

I recently submitted a post on head and neck wire attachment called "thought I'd share". check it out, even George liked it!LOL

flying

It is a flying pose. The foam body is a one peice body and neck with the neck wire already in it. So what would be the best way to mount the head . I also have one more question for the wings if u dont mind, for the wings, i skinned them all the way down to the last joint. Do i insert the wire all the way down and tie it to the bone with string? Any details would be appreciated, thanks

ok

if you have the ferebee fake neck, they are made to fit the back of the head. take a look at the post I wrote on head an neck union(thought I'd share)use the search or scroll down. you can use the same process for a fake neck.

you can wire the wings that way, that is a common way to do it and it works fine. drill a hole in the radious(?) bone and run the wire inside the bone and then use string to secure the wire to the humerous. Savidas uses this method, he cuts the head off the humorous and uses elec. tape but string will work.

when you are ready to run the wires into the form, lay the bird on it's back and bend the wires so they point up this make it easy to insert the wires into the form. Run the wires through the form so they exit through the breast about 1/4-1/2 inch apart. hold the wings bones in place and twist the wires together 3 or four times and push the ends into the form. Cut a slot for the wires to sit in, press them into the form so they are flush and hot glue in place.

there is another way to wire wings but it's a little difficult to explain. Good luck

is there a good video?

that shows how to do the wings. I have duck videos but they all are for standing poses.

thanks

I don't know

if there is any one video that deals with that specificaly. I am sure any video that is for mounting a flying bird woud have a method that the taxidermist uses. I got my method out of Breakthrough issue 50 winter of 97.

what is the particular problem you are having?
