i went turkey hunting today and saw a light smoke phase hen with a beard. i was just wondering if how rare it was and if anyone else has ever seen one? i think a bird like that would definitely deserve a spot on the wall!

Does that count. It was taken this year just outside of nashiville by one of my customers dad. i read something about this color but never found anything other then what hunters were saying..can't remember what it is called. i have seen several bearded hens and have always heard that they often produce mutli bearded toms, true or not i don't know. I do know I have three beared hens running my farm and in the last two years I have shot a three bearded bird and this year I shot a two bearded bird. I have one that appears to have four beards that I hope my son can get after he gets his cast off tomorrow.

We have some "Smokies". Jackson County has quite a few, and here in Calhoun, they are getting a bit more popular. I believe it's caused by a reccesive gene in the hen. Pretty cool looking, aren't they?

We occasionally have bearded hens here also. On one place in particular there are several, and I noticed one double and one triple bearded hen last year.
Joey A...I hope this is correct about the bearded hens having multi-bearded gobblers! My brother killed a double bearded bird there this morning and it was with a bearded hen.

too bad our season ends Sunday. doesn't look like I will be able to get the limit, but not a bad year with 4 in the bag.

That name sounds familiar...As does the bird...Do you get onto Grass lake often?
