Ross Goose

Submitted by Jim on 5/11/06 at 9:57 AM. ( ) 12.221.193.111

I got in a Ross that has been frozen for a while. When looking at the bill, the wart area looks more gray color. The paint schedule in Waterfowl Finishing doesn't call for that. Wondering if that is do to being frozen or if that is the color? anyone have color suggestion for painting the wart area? Thanks for the help.

Variation

Ross' Geese have quite abit of variation in the bills.
Some have extremly warty gray areas on the bill, while others have almost no wartiness, as the ross' and snow geese continue to interbreed only more variation will come. The good news is there are alot of artifical heads to choose from.
Good Luck

Then the colors are not accurate.

FInd the way you like them to look and paint them Your way.

All things in nature are not the same, as you see bird bills, turkey heads, fish colors, it is in the BALL PARK and that is all that is required.

Next you do or do not have photos of the bird immediatly after the kill?

If not then colors could have changed.

I don't have a photo of the bird after the kill. It was frozen when I got it. Since I ama beginner airbrush person, I am not sure what colors (water base paint) to use to get that gray color. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Grey?

The bill propably turned grey after is was froze. All of mine do. I usually use yellows and a slight hint of orange and off white of some sort on the tips if I think it needs it. The main portion of the bills I use seinna. A little grey might start at the base of the warts but they all differ. Just remember to make thin layers and if it soesn't look right then take it off and start over.
