Im now a firm beliver of soaking a potential thin skined duck is a salt brine over night before it touched the wire wheel. Ive done numerous woodie, mallards and such that have been a pain in the butt during the fleshing process, so the other day I had 2 woodies to do for a guy and as always the first no matter how hard I tried I was still getting some burn throughs. I stop after the 3rd hole and decided to try the salt soak ive read about on here. They both went in it over night and the next day im pleased to say I finished the 1st without incident and the 2nd was just as good. I had no burns throughs. Of course I was still being carefull. It really does help. Has anyone ever had any drawbacks doing this? The birds washed up good and they turned out great.

Hi Jerry, Never tried the salt soak but Ive had problems with woodies too. I always have problems around the seam usually near the anal area. I quit tumbling them because of their delicate skin. Ill have to give it A try. Ive done about 300 mallards and dont seem to have problems with them but the woodies always give me problems. Ralph
