Will an 18 gauge needle work for caulking waterfowl. Or do I need to go bigger?

We have used an 18 guage needle and syringe to inject places on freeze dry specimens. One of the things we had to do was to heat the caulk with hot water. We just throw the tube into a bucket of hot water for about 10-15 minutes. We are also using Dap siliconized caulk. Hope this helps
