Turkey Leg removal or not

Hello all. Trying to find out from the experts if you prefer removing the legs completely from a turkey. I saw this in a Cally Morris column in McKenzie's and thought it looked like a good way to go.

I already have an incision down the breast to the vent (almost).

Recommendations?

Pat

I remove the legs from every bird (turkeys, waterfowl, upland)I mount. It works so much better and gives a nicer finished product.

pat,
i am no pro at turkeys or even birds, but i did remove the legs on the first turkey i did, and it worked out great. i used the mckinzie form made by cally morris, and it was almost fool proof. but not quite. i made my leg a little short, but didnt realize it till i mounted the bird. i should have cut the bone 10 inches from spure to end of drumstick. thats for the 17-20# bird. ihave done a couple phesants with the legs on, and the turkey was much easier with the legs off. hope this helps,
good luck
bob

As always, the advise from you folks that have "been there, done that" is good advise and extremely helpful for us beginners.

The legs are coming off.

Thanks again.
