when drilling turkey legs do i through the bone?

I know someone is going to tell me to check the archives but i have and cant find the answer to my question. i am getting ready to mount a turkey i killed this year and have a question about the feet. when drilling the hole for the quarte inch rod do i drill down through the bone? if you don't please tell me what to do. thanks.

Yes Charles you do drill through the bone.It should give you a nice tight fit and it mesh nicely with your form.You could run the 8 or 9 gauge wire in your legs to without drilling but I do perfer to drill it out.Really less of a hassle.Hope this helps.


8 or 9 ga is too light

Unless its a flying bird, I'd use at least 6ga wire if I were using wire in the legs. I prefer the 1/4" threaded rod. Some folks use 3/16"...its too light IMO.

That's what I meant by the 8-9 gauge.Guess I've got flying turkeys on the mind.I just finished 6 of them and have more coming.I use the threaded rods in my standing birds and just thread them myself with a die.Thanks for clearing my brain fog James.
