Turkey Manikin w/the drum sticks question

Submitted by Pat-M on 6/27/06 at 9:13 AM. ( ) 160.136.109.105

I'm using a Turkey manikin with the drumsticks premolded for the first time. I've used the manikin where the drum stick was grooved and you attached the femor bone using small metal straps, 3" screws and then filled with bondo. That works great. I would have bought the same manikin but it doesn't come with the legs together, just walking. (trying for a gobbling from the roost pose)

My questions is, how do you recommend attaching/securing the leg wires to the manikin? Run the wire up through the pre drilled holes in the drumsticks till it comes out of the top/back of the manikin, then bend and tie?

As always, thanks for your help.

Pat

PS: Is there any way of avoiding the dreaded six gauge hole in the left thumb when running the wire down through the foot? Any advise there would be GREATLY appreciated.

Alter the mannikin

That is a simple alteration on the mannikin to make the legs even. If you like those mannikins, that's what I'd do.

If you are using Joe Ferebee drumsticks, run 1/4" threded rod up through the drumstick and use a paddle bit to make a hole in the mannikin to accept the rod. Run the rod up through the hole and pack it full of bondo.
