I am mounting a blue indigo peacock, and am wondering how to remove the tail? Do you just remove it about one half inch below the vent where the root of the feathers are rowed together and cut straight across? Leaving enough skin so you can bondo and borax the tail sew back up and let dry in the desired position. If so then what do you use to attach the tail assembly back on the bird securely? Is it best to skin the bird from inside leg to leg?
Or use the Brest to vent incision? I am going to be mounting the bird
on the roost with the tail feathers sweeping downward hanging on the wall on a cedar turkey roost. What taxidermy company sells the supplies to mount the peacock?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron.

I do several each year, and have found the best way is to remove the tail with the back skin up to about the wings. You will find that the skin leading into the tail is very fatty to say the least. Once the skin is de-fatted and washed, the tail roots can be bondo'd to hold the tail in the desired position. Once you have your bird mounted on the roost, simply bondo tail in slot of form and then using caulking as a glue, simply lay the back skin in place. With the wings positioned properly, any seems will not be seen.
